Why Choose Intermediate Paint Protection Film?

Sills This package is the minimum we would suggest opting for to protect the most vulnerable areas that are prone to stone chipping and damage on your car. Lower levels of protection leave key areas of the car exposed to damage.

Full Vehicle Coverage

Why Choose Full Vehicle Paint Protection Film?

This kit includes the Front Bumper, Wings, Bonnet (Hood), Wing Mirrors, Headlights, Sills, Doors, Roof, Quarters, Boot/Engine cover and Rear Bumper. Essentially everything that is painted and/or carbon fibre, excluding the rear diffuser (this element can be added as a bolt-on, if painted or carbon fibre). This is the most common coverage option at Adept due to the consistency of finish (PPF is extremely glossy and UV protected, meaning that if you go for part coverage over time the painted areas will look dull compared to the film).

Service Specification

Service Duration: 5-7 Days
Includes: Covering all the external painted sections on the car.

Custom Coverage Kit

Why Choose Bespoke Paint Protection Film?

This package is perfect for older cars, particularly those which are handmade, meaning no two are exactly the same. Most modern cars are symmetrical, meaning that we are able to design the PPF patterns for one side, and mirror them to the other. However, for some older cars, every panel is different, and the film needs to be designed from scratch. In fact, the tolerances we work with on these cars are so exact that when we work on a hand-built car (for example a Jaguar E-Type), we will save the PPF patterns to the chassis number of that car (should they ever need replaced).

So What Exactly is PPF?

Whether you purchase a secondhand vehicle or splash out on the latest model, it’s vital that you do everything you can to maintain Its condition, both aesthetically and financially. One of the best ways to do this is by applying paint protection film to high-risk areas.
Used by vinyl installation experts and professionals in auto protection, this thin polyurethane film acts as an additional skin to your vehicle to protect the paint from any scratches or stone chips. PPF also protects your car against mineral deposits, UV exposure, and more. When researching the best automotive car care products on the market, there are lots of false facts that you need to be aware of.

History of PPF

Like with many consumer products that we use today, automotive paint protection film was initially developed and used by the military. Throughout the Vietnam War, the US Department of Defense experienced major issues with helicopter rotor blades being damaged, resulting in flying shrapnel and debris, giving them inspiration to engage with the 3M corporation to create a protective coating that was both lightweight and clear.

Origins of Urethane Film

Their solution was to create a thermoplastic urethane film that could be applied to helicopter rotor blades to add an extra layer of protection, without compromising their performance. As a commercial application initially, urethane film was never intended to sparkle. Urethane film served its purpose in protecting anywhere that it was applied to. Urethane film was also useful for clearing damage from stone chips and general wear and tear.

Present Day PPF

Since the Vietnam War, automotive paint protection has come a long way, evolving into a high-quality urethane film that is applied to new and used car topcoats. Available in a variety of finishes and thickness levels, car paint protection film serves numerous benefits for our vehicles of today.

Urethane clear film is extremely resilient and resistant to acidic corrosion and contaminants, delivering protection against bird droppings, bug splatter, and more. Urethane clear film is also used to decrease oxidation, which occurs from excessive exposure to UV rays.

The top layer of paint protection film consists of an elastomeric polymer material that helps maintain the substance’s natural shape once it has been applied or stretched, allowing the paint protection film to heal on its own should light scratches happen.

We have a demo unit at Adept Wrapping HQ, so feel free to pop in and test out the self-healing properties yourself.

Types of PPF

Although 3M was responsible for creating paint protection film, in today’s world, there are many manufacturers who offer the service.

We have worked with every mainstream manufacturer of PPF on the market. These days, the quality of the material is just so good that the real difference comes down to the experience and attention to detail of your fitter.

Some of the most popular PPF products that consumers can use include Xpel Ultimate PPF, Hexis Bodyfence, Suntek Ultra, Stek and Bodyfilm.

Our go-to choice is normally based on the job in question. Some manufacturers produce in wider rolls (perfect for wider bonnets and sections) and others for example make particularly good Satin PPF.

The majority of PPF makers now offer low self-healing temperature and at least a 10-year guarantee.

So How long does PPF last?

One of the major benefits that PPF can bring to cars is durability. On average, most manufacturers state that providing the product is looked after, it will last between 5 and 10 years depending on the product chosen, our product of choice comes with a 10-year guarantee against fading, cracking, and orange peel.

The brilliant thing about PPF is that if one panel gets damaged, you can replace just that one section unlike paint where you have to blend an entire side.

there are numerous variables that can increase product longevity. Some of the common factors that enhance the durability of PPF include:

Differences Between Vinyl and PPF

When learning the differences between vinyl and paint protection film, there tends to be a lot of confusion. In simple terms, paint protection film is a much lighter and thinner version of vinyl or wrap.

Wrapping material does not benefit from the same self-healing properties as PPF, however, it can provide some additional protection for the paintwork underneath.

Paint protection film also tends to be either fully transparent or as a matt finish to help look after the existing paintwork. It’s recommended that you also have the vehicle paint corrected before installing the film – this removes imperfections in the paintwork before locking in that top layer.

Getting the Full Benefits from PPF

In addition to exterior PPF, it’s recommended to apply a ceramic coating on top to maintain hydrophobic properties. It will also offer additional protection against the everyday elements’ vehicles face on the road. We can also PPF interior panels, such as exposed carbon fibre or hard wearing areas like brushed aluminum trim.

We can apply pain protection film to any vehicle, however the majority of our customers tend to own high end, prestige cars. We have a vast amount of experience in particular with Aston Martin PPF, Porche PPF and Lamborghini PPF.

In comparison to the cost of a partial or full respray, applying PPF is a cost-effective solution. When you come to sell the vehicle, having PPF installed maintains residual value, indicates how you have cared for the vehicle and minimises their ability to down value your car.

More importantly, you can enjoy your car properly without the fear of minor damage and abraisions.

FAQ’s

Now that you have a better insight into what PPF is and how it can benefit your car, you will be aware of how good the product is for protecting your vehicle’s exterior from debris like stone chips. You may have some questions that you want addressing before making your final decision, so here are 5 that should answer the basics.

When picking a PPF installer, what should I look out for most?
Experience is the main factor that you should take into account when picking a PPF installer. This product is known to be tricky and difficult to correctly install, so you will want to find an installer who has a proven track record. We have over 25 years combined experience with wrap, ppf and vehicle bodywork we also offer a guarantee on the work delivered and only fit the very best products in the market – no cutting corners.
What warranties can I receive when purchasing PPF products?
Paint protection film can come with numerous warranties; however, this will depend on the type of product you purchase. The most common tend to last between 5 and 10 years.
Which PPF product is the best?
As the leader in the PPF industry, Suntek is our manufacturer of choice. Bodyfence by Hexis is a cheaper alternative that we can also fit – feel free to discuss these options with us.
What Alternatives do I have to PPF?

This will depend on the reasons why you are using PPF initially. If your main goal is to protect your car against scratches and stone chips, it’s recommended to stick with PPF. While the smartest consumers will use PPF for their cars, if you are looking for extra protection against bird droppings, UV exposure and other contaminants, a good ceramic coating may be a cheaper alternative worth considering.
While PPF and a ceramic coating serve the same purpose in preventing chemical spills, stopping chemical etch marks and ensuring your vehicle looks newer for longer, ceramic coating creates a hydrophobic surface, makes your car easier to clean, and enhances gloss.
